IPOB commends Afenifere, Yoruba elders for condemning Operation Python Dance

IPOB commends Afenifere, Yoruba elders for condemning Operation Python Dance

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, has commended apex Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Yoruba Elders Council (YEC) and other leaders from the South West, for condemning Operation Python Dance II in the South-East.
The group said the collective and individual condemnation, to suppress legitimate agitation for freedom, through intimidation and slaughter of the innocent, has earned Afenifere and other elders an enduring legacy which history would never forget.
IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emma Powerful said the Yoruba groups rose up to condemn the evil and “well-oiled propaganda machinery that seeks to turn truth upside down and make us believe that light is now darkness and darkness light.
“This rare courage and forthrightness in coming forth, to speak up in defence of freedom of speech, expression, association and recognition that IPOB is not a terrorist organisation, has contributed in convincing humanity that agitation for freedom within Nigeria, including the right to self-determination, is not a crime.
“We also commend men and women of good conscience, from across all ethnic divides in Nigeria and across the globe that condemned the campaign against innocent civilian populations across Biafraland.
“With this public display of courage,  we are hopeful that many more courageous men and women across West Africa and Africa in general will rise up against this tyranny and oppression in black Africa, as other races have managed to do.
“With this, IPOB worldwide will remain steadfast and committed to the pursuit of the finest ideals of liberation to set free all oppressed and marginalised people in Nigeria and beyond.
“We must all stand firm now because ultimately, power belongs to the people,” Powerful said.

Kanu accepted restructuring before invasion, says Uko

Kanu accepted restructuring before invasion, says Uko

26, september 2017
Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, had agreed that Nigeria must be restructured before the military struck at his home a  fortnight ago.
Founder of Igbo Youth Movement (IYM), Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, who was present at the meeting of governors of the South East with Kanu, in Enugu, on August 30, 2017 said Prof. Ben Nwabueze, who was at the meeting, convinced Kanu to shift ground on secession.
Ugochukwu-Uko who is also the deputy secretary, Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT) told Daily Sun he was sure those behind the military invasion and attack on Kanu’s home and Abia State were averse to peaceful resolution of the loss of confidence in Nigeria by millions of Eastern youths.
“The August 30, 2017 meeting between Kanu and South East governor was historic, in the sense that Nwabueze made Kanu to adjust his position in a landmark development.
“Because of Kanu’s respect for Nwabueze, he accepted in principle, Nwabueze’s proposal for restructuring of Nigeria and stepped down the agitation for secession. But, the restructuring should be a return to the 1963 Constitution format.
“Kanu, in reverence to Nwabueze, agreed in principle to the proposal, but insisted on discussing with and carrying along the entire leadership of IPOB, both at home and in Diaspora.”
Uko said it was agreed at the meeting that IPOB would not disrupt elections, including the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election.
“The meeting also agreed to meet again within days, to finetune and conclude the agreements.
“But, most importantly, Kanu accepted Prof. Nwabueze’s suggestions that IPOB demands are not absolut, which meant that the group would have to shift ground in subsequent meetings.
“Kanu was cautious not to take solo decisions without carrying his group along and promised to bring the group’s leaders to the next meeting.

- The Arewa Initiative for Peaceful Co-existence in Southern Nigeria has bashed 5 northern governors, following their recent visit to Rivers state, after the clash between IPOB and northerners in the state - The group lamented over the fact that the governors had not paid a visit to the Hausa community affected during the clash and bashed the governors for not valuing the northerners residing in the south - The group further urged all Nigerians to live in peace and harmony and counseled against reprisal attacks The five northern governors who paid a visit to Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor, after the clash between members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Hausa community in the state, have been condemned by the Arewa Initiative for Peaceful Co-existence in Southern Nigeria (AIPCSN), Vanguard reports. Alhaji Musa Saidu, the group’s national coordinator, bashed the governors for failing to meet with the affected northerners, or even visit the site of the incident. Don NAIJ.com gathers that Saidu stated that the actions of the northern governors only showed that the leaders had no value for the northerners residing in the southern part of the country. He stated: “Now, we know that five of our own governors came to the state, stayed and left without a message for us. We had expected the governors to visit us and know how we are feeling. “We had expected them to come and commiserate with the Hausa community in Rivers state. “They did not visit us, they did not visit the scene where the incident happened in Rivers state. Their action was not good.” Saidu further urged all Nigerians to live together peacefully, as he stressed that religion should not be brought into the mix. In his words: “Nigerians should learn to live together as brothers and sisters. We need peace and we want peace in all parts of the country. We want to live in peace. “Even if you kill the man selling groundnut, or the shoemaker (cobbler) in the street, what is your gain? My plea is, let us live together. “We don’t want reprisal from any quarters. “Please, we should not bring religion into it, because if we do that, it would have more adverse effects on everybody in the country. "Let us appreciate our peaceful coexistence and live in harmony. Recall that NAIJ.com previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari dispatched a delegation of northern governors to the south-east and south-south in a bid to secure peace after riots broke out in Abia state over deployment of the military to the area. The governors also met with their Rivers counterpart, Nyesom Wike, as they touched down in the south-south state. Glenn Johansen says: "Happy birthday Nnamdi Kanu, may God in His infinite mercy bless you with more wisdom and knowledge to lead us Biafrans to the promise land through Christ our Lord Amen," he said. As the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu has been at the forefront of the agitation for the independence of Biafra from Nigeria and as a result, has suffered imprisonment. But many observers believe Nnamdi Kanu's approach to the Biafran agitation is counterproductive given his penchant for making inciting statements. However, despite Kanu's penchant for confrontational statements, many others also believe the IPOB leader's agitation will end up benefiting Nigerians at large, irrespective of tribe or region.

Deadly attack on Edo zoo is an unfortunate incident- Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has strongly condemned the attack on Ogba Zoo and Nature Park in Benin, Edo State, on Sunday, during which three policemen were killed and the Head of the Zoo, Dr. Andy Ehanire, was abducted by the attackers.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister described the attack on one of the country's foremost tourist destinations as a big blow to ongoing efforts to lift the tourism sector in the country.

''The success or failure of a tourism destination depends largely on a
safe and secure environment. Incidences such as the attack on the Ogba
Zoo and Nature Park therefore negate the concept of tourism as well as
government's determination to develop our tourism industry as a tool
for socio-economic development.
''The killing of the three policemen attached to the zoo to provide
security for fun seekers, the abduction of the zoo boss and the trauma
suffered by the visitors who witnessed the attack are saddening,
condemnable and most unfortunate,'' he said.
Alhaji Mohammed said the government will step up security in all the
tourist sites across the country in particular in order to prevent a
recurrence, while urging the abductors of Dr Ehanire to quickly
release him unharmed.
He also sent his condolences to the families of the policemen who were
killed in the attack, and prayed that God will grant repose to their
souls.
