NDA Organises Leadership Course For 64RC & SSC44 (ARMY)


The Center for the study of Leadership and Complex Military Operation of the Nigerian Defence Academy, organized a Certificate Course in Leadership Studies for cadets of the 64th Regular Course and Short Service Course 44 (Army) of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

The Guest Lecturer and the Deputy Chief of Staff Military Intelligence, Colonel BY Baffa, who lectured the cadets on the topic “Junior Leaders and the Management of Intelligence in the 21st century Military Operations”, said that in every operation or war, a Leader needs intelligence.  According to him, intelligence is all about critical decision making and it is for everyone. He noted that Military Leadership is one of the many categories of leadership.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Commandant Major General MT Ibrahim said leadership training forms part of fundamental decision making in the lives of the cadets. He therefore enjoined them to see the programme as a clarion call to leadership. He advised them not to allow sentiments or religion to bear on their leadership qualities because if they do, it will cost lives. He also urged them to measure up to the requirements of the Nigerian Armed Forces and discharges their duties as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Above all, he enjoined them to have mutual respect for one another.

Other lectures delivered at the one week course were “Theories and Concepts of Leadership” by Dr UA Tar, Head of the NDA’s Centre for Defence Studies and Documentation, “Junior Leadership in Insurgency and Counter Insurgency Operations” by Major General JN Nwaoga (rtd) and “Leadership & Complex Military Operations” by Major General L Irabor, the Force Commander, Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). Others were “Leadership and Critical Thinking” by Dr ND Muhammad, Head of NDA’s Centre Critical Thinking and Learning and “Gendering Leadership” by Dr Caroline Ogbonna, among others.

Declaring the event closed, the Director Military Training, Brigadier General MG Kangye appreciated all for the success of the event, especially the Commandant and resource persons. He charged the cadets to take advantage of the leadership training and equip themselves with the knowledge needed to become efficient and effective leaders in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
